India finds new number ones in Mukund and Thandi

Indian tennis is seeing a change in its top spot in both men’s and women’s circuits. Recently Mukund Sasikumar has become the top Indian male tennis player with a 342 ATP ranking surpassing Ramkumar Ramanathan, who currently holds the 3rd spot, while the 2nd spot is being held by Prajnesh Gunneswaran. The 25-year-old, Chennai lad won his sole title of 2022 in September, winning the Sintra M25 tournament in Portugal. Mukund had his best ATP ranking of 229 in prepandemic era.

In the women’s field, Karman Thandi from New Delhi has claimed the top spot in Indian tennis dethroning Ankita Raina. Karman currently holds a 264 WTA ranking. She has recently been awarded the IFA most stylish sportsperson award as well. She had also been the 6th Indian to enter into the top 200, with her career-best ranking of 196. the 2nd and 3rd spots are held by Ankita Raina and Rutuja Bhosale respectively.
