Vivaan Mirdha and Saatvi Mardaniya clinch National Series U-16 titles in Jalandhar
Monodip Dey-Heet Kandoriya and Akshita Antil-Sarena Gahlot emerge doubles champions
Vivaan Mirdha and Saatvi Mardaniya were crowned the boys’ and girls’ singles champions respectively at the AITA National Series U-16 Tournament in Jalandhar, held from July 20-25.
Fifth seed Vivaan Mirdha produced a composed performance in the boys’ singles final to defeat 12th seed Heet Kandoriya 6-3, 7-6(5). Mirdha had earlier come through a 6-4, 6-4 semifinal win against Taanish Nanda, while Kandoriya advanced after overcoming eighth seed Monodip Dey in straight sets 6-4, 6-2.
The girls’ singles title went to unseeded Saatvi Mardaniya, after top seed Aaradhya Meena conceded the final tie at 6-3, 1-0 (retired). Mardaniya had reached the final by upsetting fifth seed Purvi Patwa 6-1, 7-5, while Meena booked her place with a straight-set 6-4, 7-5 victory over third seed Sarena Gahlot.
In the boys’ doubles event, third seeds Monodip Dey and Heet Kandoriya lifted the title after defeating fourth seeds Atharv Anand and Rohin Raj 6-2, 6-3 in the final. The champions had earlier upset top seeds Prabhroop Kalsi and Jeevith S 6-2, 6-4 in the semifinals before completing a flawless finish in the title clash.
The girls’ doubles crown was claimed by top seeds Akshita Antil and Sarena Gahlot, who defeated second seeds Sarithra Entoori and Aaradhya Singh 6-1, 6-3 in the final.
