After an unprecedented weather situation suspended dozens of matches in the Doubles draw of the 2021 US Open, India’s Rohan Bopanna and his Croatian partner Ivan Dodig finally got to the courts for their first-round tie against Aussie duo of James Duckworth and Jordan Thompson and won the match in three sets 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 to advance to the second round of US Open.

The Indo-Croatian pair had to dig deep and came from one behind to emerge victorious in a battle lasting two hours and 24 minutes.

During their Round of 64 encounters, Bopanna-Dodig fired home nine aces whereas the Aussies could only hit four in the entire match. In the receiving points won stat, Thompson-Duckworth edged past the 13th seeds by one point, however, in the overall points won, Bopanna-Dodig held an advantage by seven at the end of the match.

Playing as the 13th seeded doubles pairing, the Indo-Croatian team will now face the duo of Arthur Rinderknech of France and Poland’s Hugo Nys in their next match today at the season’s last Grand Slam.
