Niki and Zeel seal the Fenesta Open National Championship as top seeds

The number one seeds in both Men’s and Women’s singles draw, Niki K. Poonacha and Zeel Desai ran through their opponents at the Fenesta Open 2021 to take home the National Championship trophy at the RK Khanna Tennis Stadium in New Delhi.

Gujarat’s Desai was up against unseeded Sharmada Balu in the first final of the day followed by Poonacha taking on another unseeded finalist Digvijay Pratap Singh.

It was an easy outing in the Women’s final for Indian Billie Jean King Cupper Desai who needed just 15 games to wrap the match in straight sets 6-3, 6-0.

On the other hand, top seed Poonacha had to dig deep to win over Digvijay in a come from behind three-set intense battle. Digvijay opened strong to take the first set 3-6 but Poonacha persevered to record an epic fight back and pocketed the next two sets 7-6 (6) and 6-4, and also the National Men’s Championship title for 2021.
