India showcased its tennis prowess as they secured a commanding 4-0 victory against Pakistan in the Davis Cup tie held in Islamabad on 3rd and 4th February 2024. This marked India’s first visit to Pakistan in 60 years, and the Indian team left a resounding impact with a dominant performance on the court.

The tie began with India swiftly taking a 2-0 lead on day one, courtesy of impressive victories by Ramkumar Ramanathan and N Sriram Balaji against Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi and Aqeel Khan respectively. The momentum continued on day two as the doubles pair of Yuki Bhambri and Saketh Myneni sealed the victory for India with a clinical display, defeating Khan and Muzammil Murtaza 6-2, 7-6(5).

Bhambri and Myneni exhibited exceptional teamwork, breaking Khan’s serve twice in the opening set and maintaining composure during a tense second set tie-breaker. Meanwhile, on his Davis Cup debut, Niki Poonacha showcased his talent by securing a straight-sets victory against Muhammad Shoaib, further solidifying India’s dominance in the tie.

The Indian team’s performance reflected their adaptability to the challenging conditions and stringent security measures in Islamabad. Despite the restrictions, they remained focused and determined, ultimately emerging victorious in this historic encounter.

Acknowledging the team’s remarkable achievement, the Secretary General of the All India Tennis Association, who accompanied the team throughout the Davis Cup week in Pakistan, extended his congratulations to the entire unit for their extraordinary campaign. India’s victory not only secures their place in World Group I but also underscores their prowess in international tennis.

The tie served as a testament to the spirit of sportsmanship and camaraderie between India and Pakistan, facilitated by the efforts of the Pakistan Tennis Federation in ensuring a safe and successful event. As India looks ahead to competing in World Group I in September, this triumph symbolizes a significant milestone in the nation’s tennis journey, inspiring future generations of players to aim for excellence on the global stage.
