Harshini bags golden double, Aradhya wears Boys singles crown at Nichsolv AITA Super Series U-16

The top seeds in both the boys and girls category lived up to their billing as Harshini N crashed qualifier Disha Santosh Khandoji’s dreams of a fairytale victory after brushing aside the latter’s challenge with a 6-2, 6-0 victory and Aradhya Kshitij sidelined the second seed Sriniketh Kannan 6-1, 6-4 in the finals of the Nichsolv AITA Super Series U-16 that concluded at the KSLTA Stadium here on Friday. Harshini also won the doubles title partnering Arzan Khorakiwala.
The score-line of the girls match belied the actual fight for points on court. Almost every game was fought to the hilt with Harshini edging past over her rival. After losing her serve in the very first game, the 15-year-old 10th standard student of The Brilliant School, pulled up her socks and won five games in a row to make it 5-1. Disha broke Harshini’s serve in the seventh game before losing her serve in the next game to surrender the first set. Harshini who trains at the Transform Tennis Academy, took advantage of her error-prone opponent to win 6-0 to clinch the title. For the record, Harshini did not drop a single set in the entire tournament.
Meanwhile, Aradhya who had lost to Sriniketh in their earlier encounter in the National series last year, avenged the defeat in style today even though his rival put a late fightback in the match. After annexing the first set easily at 6-1 with three breaks (3, 5, 7), the Sol Sports Academy trainee raced to a 4-1 lead in the second set. However, soon to be 14-year-old Aradhya lost a bit of concentration and the scores were level at 4-4. He then held his serve in the crucial 9th game and broke his opponent’s serve in the 10th to grab the title.
