Japan pulled off a great victory against Australia in the final where the host India faltered right at the finish line against Korea in the third Position match in Asia/Oceania World Junior Tennis Competition (U14 Girls’) Final Qualifying 2022, here in R.K. Khanna Tennis Stadium, New Delhi on Saturday 23rd April.
India’s seeded no 1 Aishwarya Jadhav continued her sublime touch till the very last day of the tournament. Today, she won the second singles with a comprehensive margin against Heewon Ju 6-4 6-1 and made things equal for the host after Sai Janvi lost the first Singles of the day 4-6 1-6. It had been five out of six times in the week for India when Aishwarya won the singles with absolute authority and put India on top.
Once again Sai Janvi could not get past the opposition’s challenge in the first singles in the morning. But then it was the indomitable Aishwarya who continued her ‘Midas touch’ to bring things on equal footing for the hosts, before the doubles. But finally, Korea won the decisive doubles to justify the third position in the tournament.
On the other hand, Japan looked like almost a different team since they made it to the knockout stage. Not an inch was given to the opposition in the final, as the Japanese girls guide their nation to a 2-1 triumph over the mighty Aussies and grab the title of the most deserving team in the tournament.
Final Results
Champion – Japan
2nd position – Australia
3rd position – Korea
