Second seeds Sania Mirza and Shuai Zhang miss out on the Semis berth at Luxembourg

India’s tennis player Sania Mirza and partner Shuai Zhang of China lost to the all-Belgian pairing Greet Minnen and Alison Van Uytvanck in a closely fought quarter-finals 3-6, 6-3, 10-8 at the Luxembourg Open in Luxembourg.
The second-seeded Indo-Chinese pair were knocked out from the tournament after a high-quality tussle that lasted one hour and 11 minutes.
During the match, the Belgian duo hit four aces and double-faulted twice whilst the Indo-Chinese pair neither had any aces nor double-faults.
Greet Minnen and Alison Van Uytvanck will now face the third-seeded Japanese pair of Eri Hozumi and Makoto Ninomiya in the semis.
Previously, Sania-Shuai mounted a win over the Morderger sisters in order to qualify for the Quarter-Finals. The match was held on Wednesday and lasted for 65 minutes with an easy win for the Mirza-Zhang duo over the German pair 6-2, 6-3.
With their Quarter-Finals appearance, both Mirza and Zhang will split the paycheck of € 1,854 and earned 60 WTA ranking points.
