Relive Leander Paes’ “Greatest Olympic Moment”, with his own commentary
The living legend of Indian Tennis, Leander Paes won an individual Bronze medal at the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games in Men’s Tennis, becoming India's first individual medal-winner since 1952.
The 2020 season was Paes’ last year on the Pro-Circuit as a professional tennis player as he had announced his swansong #OneLastTour in the last week of December 2019.
Having represented India in seven straight Olympic Games from 1992 to 2016, Paes has been vocal about his aspirations to make the eighth appearance at the Olympic Games.
“Getting to the eighth Olympics to make sure India is forever on the top as the most number of Olympics played by a tennis player. That is the benchmark I would like to push. But even if I don’t get there, still I’m happy with what I’ve done and the career I have,” the winner of 18 Grand Slams, Paes told table tennis player Mudit Dani on his chat show Sportlight.
Now, after the disruptions caused in the global sporting calendar by the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games are postponed until next year.
