The Indian challenge came to an end at the US Open with the quarter-finals loss of Rohan Bopanna and his Canadian partner Denis Shapovalov in the men’s doubles event in New York.
Bopanna and Shapovalov were handed a tough 5-7, 5-7 loss by the Dutch Jean-Julien Rojer and Romanian Horea Tecau in the last eight match which lasted one hour 26 minutes.
The Indo-Canadian pair got broken once in each set and could not convert the only break chance that came their way in the second set.

Bopanna and Shapovalov will take on Dutch-Romanian combination of Jeal-Julien Rojer and Horia Tecau in the quarterfinals.

The Indo-Canadian duo of Rohan Bopanna (World rank 37) and Denis Shapovalov (45) have kicked off this year’s US Open campaign with an emphatic win over an all American pairing of Ernesto Escobedo and Noah Rubin on Friday.
In a rain-interrupted first-round match which had to be played over two days, Bopanna and Shapovalov were both on song as they cruised past their opponents in straight sets 6-2, 6-4.

US Open 2020 – the first Grand Slam, after the COVID-19 pandemic had emerged worldwide early this year, begins today in New York, United States with three Indians – India’s top ranked player Sumit Nagal, 2020 Arjuna Awardee Divij Sharan and 2017 French Open Mixed Doubles champion Rohan Bopanna making it to the main draw of the competition.
Back in action after five months, Rohan Bopanna and his Canadian partner Denis Shapovalov lost in the opening round of the Western and Southern Open men''s doubles event but not before making it as tough as possible for Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos here.
Bopanna and Shapovalov lost 4-6 6-7(1) to 2019 US Open runners-ups in the first round match of the USD 42,22,190 hard court tournament, which is a build-up to the US Open.
It was the first competitive match for Bopanna since the Davis Cup tie against Croatia in March, alongside veteran Leander Paes.
Rohan Bopanna in partnership with Edouard Roger-Vasselin of France made the doubles quarterfinals of the US Open by beating Jeremy Chardy and Fabrice Martin of France.
Chardy and Martin had earlier ousted the second seeds Henri Kontinen of Finland and John Peers of Australia, apart from Leander Paes in partnership with Jamie Cerretani.
In the quarterfinals, Bopanna and his partner will play fifth seeds Juan Sebastian Cabal and Robert Farah of Colombia who had beaten Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan and partner in the first round.
India's Rohan Bopanna and Divij Sharan won the gold medal in the men's doubles tennis event at the ongoing 18th Asian Games 2018 in the twin cities of Jakarta and Palembang by winning the gold medal match against Kazakhstan's men's doubles pair.
Bopanna and Sharan, who were the top seeds in the event, played to their billing throughout the tournament and beat Kazakhstan's Aleksandr Bublik and Denis Yevseyev 6-3, 6-4 to scoop the top prize in the event.
With the win, India's medals tally has now swelled up to 22, including 6 gold medals, 4 silver and 12 bronze.
