Prajnesh Gunneswaran was unable to set up a dream date with Roger Federer on grass, as he was beaten 7-6(4), 6-3 by Giudo Pella of Argentina in the pre-quarterfinals of the € 729,340 Mercedes Cup ATP tennis tournament in Stuttgart on Thursday.
In a keen contest, Pella, regular top-100 player in the professional circuit for the last few years, converted one of five breakpints and saved two breakpoints that he faced, to meet Federer in the quarterfinals.
Prajnesh collected 32 ATP points, including 12 for qualification, and pocketed € 11,210 from his maiden appearance in an ATP event.
Ankita Raina in partnership with Ingrid Neel of the US was beaten in the doubles quarterfinals of the $100,000 ITF women’s event in Manchester by Harriet Dart and Katy Dunne.
