Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships 2020: Gunneswaran vs Novak in Rd 1
The Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships 2020 is underway in Dubai, UAE and India will be represented by 6’ 2” tall Prajnesh Gunneswaran in the singles category of the tournament.
In round one, Gunneswaran, who is ranked 134 th in the world and is second highest ranked singles Indian player (after Sumit Nagal: 127 th), will face Austrian qualifier Dennis Novak in the ATP 500 championship which offers US$2,794,840 in Prize Money.
Gunneswaran has received a wild-card entry to the main draw at the eleventh hour and is looking to improve his win-loss ratio (1-2), so far in 2020, on the ATP Tour, whereas, 96 th ranked Novak has 1-5 win-loss ratio this year on the Tour.
In the doubles category, Leander Paes continues his swan song with Aussie Partner Matthew Ebden as wild card entrants in the tournament. In the round of 16, the Indo-Aussie duo have a tough task at hand as they are slated to battle it out against tournament’s second seeds Croatia’s Ivan Dodig and Slovakia’s Filip Polasek
