Jagdish Tanwar wins mixed doubles silver in World Seniors Tennis Championship
Jagdish Tanwar of Rajasthan who works with the Goods and Services Tax Council (GST) won the mixed doubles silver with Barbara Mulej of Slovenia in the over-45 section of the World Seniors tennis championship in Miami, US.
‘’We lost a very close match in the final. I am very happy with the silver medal’’, said Jagdish when contacted in Miami.
‘’We played a superb final. I was very confident that we would win the gold. But I had muscular pain in the final, and thus could not play my best. My partner Barbara Mulej was very good, as she won both women’s singles and doubles titles’’, said Jagdish.
Commending his friend from the Netherlands, Bart Beks who finished runner-up in singles and won the doubles title in the over-45 men’s event, Jagdish said that it was the Dutch who arranged him the mixed doubles partner.
Barbara won the women’s singles title, dropping a mere three games in all in five matches. She won the women’s doubles title wihout dropping a set.
Left hander Jagdish who has been the captain of the Indian team for the last three World Championships, starting with Cape Town, South Africa, in 2017, said that he was thrilled to fulfill his dream of winning a ‘’World Championship medal in doubles or mixed doubles’’.
The Indo-Slovenian combination was dominant at the start in the first two matches after a bye, and pulled off a thrilling 10-3 victory in the super tie-break in the semifinals against Dominika Gorecka of Portugal and Thiemo Maier of Austria.
