Ishaque Eqbal meets Rishi Reddy in final of Tribune Cup

Ishaque Eqbal and Rishi Reddy set up a title clash in contrasting ways in the Tribune Cup Rs.250,000 AITA men’s ranking tennis tournament at the CLTA Complex on Thursday.

Eqbal led 3-2 when the former national champion Mohit Mayur retired. In comparison, Rishi had to sweat it out against Anurag Nenwani in three sets before the latter quite when being close to defeat.

In the Rs.100,000 women’s event, Arthi Muniyan will play Harshita Chugh.

Both Ishaque and Arthi were in line for a double, as they won the doubles titles with Mohammed Fahad and Kaavya Sawhney respectively.

The results:

Men (semifinals): Ishaque Eqbal bt Mohit Mayur 3-2 (retired); Rishi Reddy bt Anurag Nenwani 6-7(8), 6-3, 5-1 (retired).

Doubles (final): Ishaque Eqbal & Mohammed Fahad bt Yash Yadav & Mohit Mayur 6-7(3), 6-3, [10-4].

Women (semifinals): Arthi Muniyan bt Lagan Bidhan 6-1, 6-0; Harshita Chugh bt Kaavya Sawhney 6-4, 6-1.

Doubles (final): Arthi Muniyan & Kaavya Sawhney bt Himaanshika Singh & Ashpreet Kaur Bajwa 6-3, 6-2.
