Sumit Nagal in final qualifying round of US Open
Sumit Nagal beat the 192nd ranked Peter Polansky of Canada 7-5, 7-6(0) to reach the third and final qualifying round of the US Open tennis tournament in New York.
Sumit served eight aces, to nine by the Canadian, and converted five of 13 break points. He won 87 points in the match to 78 by Polansky, who converted four of 12 break points.
In the final qualifying round, the 190th ranked Sumit will play the 210th ranked Joao Menezes of Brazil.
Menezes had won the Samarkhand Challenger this season, beating Sumit in the semifinals in three sets. It was another three-setter in the Futures event in Spain, when Menezes had won last year.
Meanwhile, in the singles main draw, Prajnesh Gunneswaran will play world No.5 Daniil Medvedev of Russia in the first round.
