Ramkumar in second round, Saketh Myneni goes down fighting
Ramkumar Ramanathan got off to a strong start as he beat Lukas Lacko of Slovakia 6-3, 6-2 in the first qualifying round of Wimbledon, in Roehampton, on Monday.
The 24-year-old Ramkumar, ranked 154, will next play the 111th ranked Kamil Majchrzak of Poland.
However, the other Indian Davis Cupper, Saketh Myneni went down fighting in three tough sets to Guillermo Garcia-Lopez of Spain.
In the women’s qualifying draw, Asian Games bronze medallist Ankita Raina will play the 29-year-old Cagla Buyukakcay of Turkey, who is ranked 247 and has played all the four Grand Slams main draw, reaching the second round of French Open twice.
