Rohan Bopanna, Denis Shapovalov in semifinals, past Bryans and Tsonga
Rohan Bopanna struck robust form in partnership with Denis Shapovalov of Canada as the duo beat some star players to make the doubles semifinals of the ATP tennis tournament in Stuttgart, Germany.
Bopanna and Shapovalov eased past wild card entrants Lucas Pouille and jo-Wilfried Tsonga of France 6-4, 6-3, after having beaten the third seeded Bryan twins, Bob and Mike, who have won 18 Grand Slam men’s doubles titles between them, 10-6 in the super tie-break.
In the semifinals, Bopanna and partner will play Nick Kyrgios and Matt Reid of Australia.
Meanwhile, in the Challenger in France, Davis Cupper Sumit Nagal sustained his good run and beat Ignatik Uladzimir of Belarus in three sets to make the quarterfinals in a draw of 64.
In the Challenger in Nottingham, Saketh Myneni and Ramkumar Ramanthan lost their second round singles in contrasting ways. Saketh went down fighting, beating 6-4, 7-5 by Sebastian Ofner of Austria, but Ramkumar managed to eke out one game from Ruben Bemelmans of Belgium.
In the $250,000 WTA event in Nottingham, Ankita Raina made the main draw as a lucky loser and lost in three sets to fellow lucky-loser Chloe Paquet of France.
