Pari Singh wins against Australia, team loses a thriller
Pari Singh continued to win her singles match, but the Indian team lost 1-2 to Australia in the second league match of the Asia Oceania World Junior under-14 girls tennis tournament in Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday.
Veda Raju got off to a good start but failed to sustain her challenge after the first set. Pari Singh, who had won her singles in the earlier tie against China, cruised to a 6-2 6-3 victory over Hana Sonton, to put things on par.
In the decisive doubles, Shruti Ahlawat and Veda Raju led 5-2 in the super tie-break, but were beaten 10-8 eventually by the Aussie pair.
‘’Pari has been very consistent, and strong on the ground strokes. Two good wins against China and Australia. She was a lot more confident today. The results apart, hope these matches serve as a learning experience for the girls’’, said the captain of the team, Olympian Rushmi Chakravarthi.
