Indian boys meet Qatar for fifth place in WJT under-14 tennis
India beat Hong Kong 2-1 to set up a fifth place play-off with Qatar in the Asia Oceania World Junior under-14 tennis tournament in Kuala Lumpur on Friday.
The Indian boys had earlier qualified for the quarterfinals as the second team from the group, but had been beaten by Australia 2-0. Japan beat Thailand 2-0 and Australia beat China 2-1 to make the final.
The Indian team had beaten Syria and Indonesia in the league and had lost to Thailand.
The results (5-8th place): India bt Hong Kong 2-1 (Agriya Yadav bt Kwok Shun Dasson Chan 4-6, 6-3, 12-10; Yuvan Nandal bt Shun Wang Max Kwong 6-2, 1-6, 10-8; Ayushmaan Arjeria & Agriya Yadav lost to Kwok Shun Dasson Chan & Hong Tseng Curtis Tan 1-6, 3-6).
Quarterfinals: Australia bt India 2-0 (Alexander Despoja bt Agriya Yadav 4-6, 6-2, 6-1; Zachary Rohan Viiala bt Ayushmaan Arjeria 6-2, 6-0; Alexander Depoja & Jeremy Zhang vs Yuvan Nandal & Agriya 0-6, 6-4 abandoned).
League: Thailand bt India 2-1 (Suphawat Saeoui bt Yuvan Nandal 7-6(10, 6-0; Rajata Thamacharoensatit bt Ayushmaan Arjeria 6-3, 6-2; Suphawat Saeoui & Rajata Thamacharoensatit lost to Ayushmaan Arjeria & Agriya Yadav 6-7(2), 6-2, 8-10).
India bt Indonesia 2-1 (Yuvan Nandal bt Cowen Lau 6-4, 3-6, 6-1; Ayushmaan Arjeria bt Fareid Widyaromadhiansyah 6-4, 6-1; Ayushman Arjeria & Agriya Yadav lost to Cowen Lau & Fareid Widyaromadhiansyah 5-7, 6-7(4)).
