Jeevan and Purav in Challenger semifinals in Spain

Third seeds Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan and Purav Raja made the doubles quarterfinals with a 4-6, 6-3, 10-8 victory over the Spaniards Enrique Lopez Perez and David Marrero in the Challenger in Spain.

In the semifinals, the Indian pair will play another Spanish team of Gerard Granollers and Pedro Martinez.

Pranjala Yadlapalli fought well against third seed Ayano Shimizu of Japan before being beaten 5-7, 6-2, 6-3 in the pre-quarterfinals of the $25,000 ITF women’s tennis tournament in Japan.

In the ITF men’s Futures in Egypt, Adil Kalyanpur battled on even terms against top seed Youssef Hossam of Egypt, who won 6-4, 7-6(2), serving eight aces and converting three breakpoints. Adil served six aces and converted two of 10 breakpoints.

In the doubles, Adil and SD Prajwal Dev made the semifinals. There was progress for Sai Samhitha as the doubles second seed in the women’s event in Egypt, in partnership with Ange Oby Kajuru of Japan. The Indo-Japanese pair won 7-6(5), 7-5 for a berth in the semifinals.
