Marina Melnikova wins title in Oasia Solapur Open $25,000 tennis

Unseeded Marina Melnikova of Russia overwhelmed fourth seed Jia-Jing Lu of China 6-1, 6-2 to win the Oasis Solapur Open $25,000 ITF womens’s tennis tournament on Saturday.

It was the fifth career singles title for the 29-year-old Russian, and the first of the season.

Quite remarkably, exxcept for dropping a set to second seed Ankita Raina in the second round, Marina, who was ranked a career best 170 in 2015, did not drop more than three games to any of her opponents in the other four rounds.

Equally interestingly, it was 6-1, 6-2 score in all her three matches from quarterfinals.
