Shrivalli Bhamidipaty shocks top seed Shivani Aminneni
Shrivalli Rashmikaa Bhamdipaty forced the first defeat in two weeks over top seed Shivani Amineni as she raced into the girls semifinals with a 6-0, 7-6(1) victory in the Gadre Marines ITF grade-3 junior tennis tournament at the Deccan Gymkhana, Pune, on Thursday.
It was the first win in three meetings for Shrivalli over Shivani, after she had won only six games in all in four sets in the last two matches including once this season in the international junior circuit.
In the semifinals, Shrivalli who trains with coach Sajid Lodi, will play Pimrada Jattavapornvanit of Thailand.
Salsa Aher beat fourth seed Koharu Niimi of Japan to set up a semifinals against another Japanese, her doubles partner Erika Matsuda.
Salsa and Erika made the doubles final and will lay the third seeds Yu-Yun LI of Chinese Taipei and Koharu Niimi of Japan.
In the boys event, last week’s champion Sacchitt Sharma was beaten 7-6(0), 6-4 by Ryuhei Azuma of Japan. The top two seeds Siddhant Banthia and Mann Shah progressed into the semifinals.
Sacchitt made the doubles final with Kasidit Samrej of Thailand, who made the singles semifinals by beating Dev Javia in straight sets. The Indo-Thai pair will play top seeds Dev Javia and Mann Shah in the final.
