Bikramjeet Singh Chawla fights power with fire

Bikramjeet Singh Chawla played an explosive vibrant game to outwit third seed Dev Javia 4-6, 7-5, 6-4 in the boys pre-quarterfinals of the ITF grade-4 junior tennis tournament at the DLTA Complex here on Wednesday.

On the relatively faster outside courts, both the players were able to bring off a high quality entertaining fare to elevate the overall standard of the tournament. The US based Chawla had the hunger to fight it out in the end.

That left only the top seeded Sacchitt Sharma who eased past Aryaan Bhatia, despite a painful knee, and Arthav Neema among the Indians in the boys quarterfinals.

National under-16 champion Krish Patel was outplayed by second seed Kasidit Samrej of Thailand, and Ajay Malik was outclassed 6-2, 6-0 by the fourth seed Ryuhei Azuma of Japan.

In the girls section, eighth seed Muskan Gupta, who trains with Vivek Shokeen, handled the climax better to beat the champion of the last week’s event in Guwahati, Sharannya Gaware in three sets. She will face Shrivalli Rashmikaa Bhamidipaty who sustained a high quality game to beat Aanya Goel of the US who had beaten fourth seed Salsa Aher in the first round.

Bhakti Shah, who is trained by coach CV Nagaraj in Hyderabad, stopped seventh seed Malikaa Marathe with surprising ease for the loss of three games, to set up a quarterfinal against third seed Pimrada Jattavapornvanit of Thailand who was stretched to three sets by Maanya Viswanath.

Sandeepti Singh Rao tamed fifth seed Kaavya Sawhney to meet second seed Erin Richardson of Britain.

Top seed Shivani Amineni packed enough punches to get past Sarah Dev in straight sets and will play Evelina Kontareva of Russia.
