Sharannya Gaware beats Lanlana Tararudee yet again
It was a return match, and so soon. Sharannya Gaware fought back from a slow start to beat Lanlana Tararudee of Thailand 5-7, 6-2, 7-5 in the girls first round of the ITF grade-4 junior tennis tournament at the DLTA Complex on Monday.
Having won the final against the Thai in Guwahati two days earlier, in three sets, Sharannya was prepared for a tough battle on a warm afternoon. The Pune left-hander who trains with coach Aditya Madkekar had to be at her best against the athletic and free-stroking Thai, and pulled through, handling the climax with composure.
In another match, Aanya Goel of the US served and stroked with a touch of assurance to beat the fourth seeded Salsa Aher in straight sets.
In the boys section, Rohan Mehra knocked out the seventh seed Suresh Dhakshineswar 6-3, 6-2. Kabir Hans went down fighting in the third set tie-break against sixth seed Lalncelot Carnello of Sweden.
