NITIN KIRRTANE BAGS SILVER MEDAL IN 2018 WORLD TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIP
At the 2018 World Tennis Championship being held in Miami Beach Tennis Centre ,Miami Florida USA Nitten Kirrtane won the historic silver Medal for Team India in the 40 plus event partnering Vlada Kirilovska from Latvia.
Nitten and Vlada lost in the Mixed doubles finals to top seed pair of Marcus Hilpert (Holland) and Stephanie Kolar of Germany 7-6(14-12 tiebreaker) and 6-2 in the second set. In the history of the World Championship this is only the second Medal won by on an Indian in the World Championship.
In the individual singles, Nitten lost to Roberto Mendez from.spain the top seed in the round of 3-2,6-2,6-0 while in the Men's doubles category Nitten partnering Dilip Mohanty lost in the quarter finals to German top seed pair of max leimbach and Andrew lux 6-1, 7-5. In the team event, Team India finishes 9 out of 21 teams in the 40 plus category. There were 3 events for 35, 40 and 45plus. This is is the first time Nitten played in the Championship.
In the group stage Indian team was placed with Holland and Sweden. Nitten lost to Dennis van Schepingen 6-3,6-2 .
