Luksika Kumkhum triumphs in the Mumbai Open
Fifth seed Luksika Kumkhum bounced back from a slow start to beat Irina Khromacheva of Russia 1-6, 6-2, 6-3 in the final of the $125,000 L&T Mumbai Open at the Cricket Club of India (CCI) courts on Sunday.
Luksika had bounced back from the brink of defeat to beat qualifier Pranjala Yadlapalli in the first round, and had beaten the top seed Zheng Saisai of China in three sets in the quarterfinals.
The title was worth 160 WTA points and $20,000. The runner-up collected 95 points and $11,000.
The doubles title was bagged by third seeds Natela Dzalamidze and Veronika Kudermetova of Russia as they beat fourth seeds Bibiane Schoofs and Barbora Stefkova in straight sets.
The doubles champions won 160 points and $5,500. The runners-up gained 95 points and $2,700.
