Krish patel strikes telling blows to stress champion class
It was an exhilarating game of top quality as Krish Patel overwhelmed Denim Yadav 6-0, 6-1 in the under-16 boys final of the Fenesta National tennis championship at the DLTA Complex on Saturday.
Watched by an appreciative audience, which included the students from DTEA School, Krish who trains with coach Todd Clark at the Ahmedabad Racquet Academy, provided a glimpse of his big game and sharp athleticism.
Denim was not a bad player and had beaten a bunch of quality players in making the final, but had no answers to the explosive game of Krish, who retained a high degree of concentration in executing his job in a crisp fashion.
However, Krish was dominant throughout the week and did not drop a set to any of the six players including the top seed Divesh Gahlot. In fact, even last week in the under-18 event, Krish was beaten only by the top seed and eventual champion Siddhant Banthia, after he had beaten strong players like Sushant Dabas and Shashank Teertha.
Gargi Pawar was calm and composed in overcoming the talented Vipasha Mehra who had beaten the top seed Bhakti Parwani and Sanjana Sirimalla in tough matches earlier. Vipasha lacked the temperament to render justice to her game, and lost focus, questioning a series of correct calls by the chair umpire.
In the under-14 boys event, Udit Gogoi coached well by Sandeep Chaudhary, was fluent in taming the talented second seed Aman Dahiya.
Renee Singh overcame top seed Vaishnavi Adkar in straight sets, after having started hesitantly, trailing 1-4 in the first set, for the girls under-14 title.
Hockey player Ramandeep Singh was the chief guest and presented the prizes.
