Jeevan nedunchezhiyan wins another challenger title, beating leander and partner

Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan in partnership with Marcelo Arevalo of El Salvador beat top seeds Leander Paes and Miguel Angel Reyes-Varela of Mexico 6-1, 6-4 to clinch the doubles title in the $150,000 Challenger in Mexico.

It was the fourth Challenger title of the season, and eighth overall in Challengers, for the 29-year-old Jeevan who had won the ATP title with Rohan Bopanna in Chennai last year.

The title was worth 125 ATP points and $9,300. The runners-up collected 75 points and $5,400.

Meanwhile, Davis Cupper Ramkumar Ramanathan went down fighting 7-6(4), 4-6, 5-7 to Hubert Huracz of Poland in the second and final qualifying round of the $9,219,970 Rolex Shanghai Masters ATP tennis tournament in China on Sunday.

The 23-year-old Ramkumar, who had made the tournament as the fourth alternate, fired 15 aces, saved six of eight breakpoints and had failed to convert the only breakpoint that he had forced in a close encounter that lasted two hours and 21 minutes.

Ramkumar collected 16 ATP points for making the final qualifying round.

In the WTA event in Tianjin, Ankita Raina was beaten in the second and final qualifying round by Yuxuan Zhang of China 5-7, 6-0, 6-3. Ankita collected 12 WTA points.
