Ramkumar progresses in Winnetka Challenger

Ramkumar Ramanathan beat Michael Redlicki of the US 7-5, 7-5 in the second round, after a bye in the first, in the $54,000 Challenger tennis tournament in Winnetka, US.

However, top seeds Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan and Purav Raja were beaten 7-5, 6-4 by Jason Jung of Chinese Taipei and Evan King of the US in the doubles pre-quarterfinals.

In the $60,000 women’s event in Germany, fourth seed Ankita Raina was beaten 6-3, 6-1 by Katharina Hobgarski of Germany in the second round. Ankita made the doubles semifinals as the top seed with Bibiane Schoofs of the Netherlands, after a bye in the first.

In the ITF women’s event in Thailand, Sowjanya Bavisetti fought past fourth seed Himeno Sakatsume of Japan 6-2, 6-7(6), 6-3. She will play Himari Sato of Japan in the quarterfinals.
