Ramkumar bows out early in Washington DC
Ramkumar Ramanathan was beaten 6-4,6-2 by Tim Smyczek of the US in the first qualifying round of the ATP-500 tennis tournament in Washington DC.
Leander Paes has got a wild card for the doubles in the tournament with Jack Sock of the US. the duo will start against Alex De Minaur and John Peers of Australia.
Divij Sharan in partnership with Jonathan Erlich of Israel had put up a strong fight against the top seeded Bryan twins, Bob and Mike, who won 6-4, 6-7(4), 10-7 in the doubles quarterfinals of the $777,385 ATP tennis tournament in Atlanta, US.
The quarterfinal entry fetched 45 ATP points and $6,240 for Divij and partner. The Indo-Israeli pair will compete in the ATP-250 event in Los Cabos, Mexico, starting with a match against fourth seeds Ben Mclachlan of Japan and John-Patrick Smith of Australia.
Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan and Purav Raja will play Gregoire Barrere and Lucas Pouille of France.
In the doubles of the ITF men’s Futures in Thailand, Arjun Kadhe in partnership with Timur Khabibulin of Kazakhstan was beaten 10-4 in the super tie-break by the experienced Ratiwatana twins, Sanchai and Sonchat.
In singles, Manish Surehskumar’s fine run was halted in the semifinals by Vladyslav Orlov of Ukrane who conceded only four games.
Arjun, Manish along with Saketh Myneni and Sidharth Rawat play the $135,400 Challenger in Chengdu, China, this week. Arjun plays the doubles in partnership with Saketh Myneni.
In the doubles semifinals of the ITF women’s event in Tunisia, Sowjanya Bavisetti and Sravya Shivani were beaten 10-7 in the super tie-break by Elizabeth Danailova and Chelsea Vanhoutte.
In the Challenger in Segovia, Spain, Digvijaypratap Singh has a wild card entry in the main draw, and plays Altug Celikbilek of Turkey.
