Prajnesh Gunneswaran in final qualifying round of Australian Open

Prajnesh Gunneswaran reached the third and final qualifying round of the Australian Open with a 1-6, 6-2, 6-1 victory over Yannick Hanfmann of Germany on Thursday.

In the final round, Prajnesh will play Ernests Gulbis of Latvia.
Sumit Nagal, however, was beaten in the first qualifying round by Mohamed Safwat of Egypt 7-6(2), 6-2.

Sumit had captured everyone’s imagination by taking a set off Roger Federer in the first round of the US Open last year.

Men’s qualifying singles (second round): Prajnesh Gunneswaran bt Yannick Hanfmann (GER) 1-6, 6-2, 6-1; First round: Mohamed Safwat (EGY) bt Sumit Nagal 7-6(2), 6-2.
