Seventh seeded Divij Sharan and Karman Kaur Thandi got off to a good start in mixed doubles as they beat Marian Jade Capadocia and Alberto Lim Jr. of Philippines 6-4, 6-4 in the second round of the Asian Games tennis competition in Palembang on Sunday.

The Indian pair, which had a bye in the first round, will play ninth seeded Anna Damilina and Aleksandr Nedovyesov of Kazakhstan in the pre-quarterfinals, in a field of 35 teams.

Rohan Bopanna and Ankita Raina have been seeded fourth and have a bye in the first round. They will play the winner of the match between the teams from Korea and Maldives.

In men’s singles, Ramkumar Ramanathan and Prajnesh Gunneswaran have been seeded second and fourth respectively and have a bye in the first round in a draw of 64.

Ramkumar will play Hong Kit Wong of Hong Kong in the second round, while Prajnesh will face M Rifqi Fitriadi of Indonesia.

In women’s singles, Ankita Raina and Karman Kaur Thandi have been seeded sixth and seventh respectively. After a bye in the first round, Ankita will play Beatrice Gumulya of Indonesia while Karman will play Jargal Altansarnai of Mongolia.

Ankita has taken the responsibility of competing in three events. She will partner Prarthana Thombare in women’s doubles. Seeded fifth, the Indian pair will open against Sarah Mahboob Khan and Meheng Khokhar of Pakistan.

Rutuja Bhosale and Pranjala Yadlapalli who have been doing well as a pair in the ITF women’s circuit, will open against the eighth seeded Thai pair of Nicha Lertpitaksinchai and Peangtarn Plipuech.

In men’s doubles, Rohan Bopanna and Divij Sharan have been seeded No.1. After a bye in the first round in a draw of 64, they will play David Agung Susanto and Ignatius Anthony Susanto of Indonesia.

Sumit Nagal in partnership with Ramkumar Ramanathan also have a bye in the first round, and will play the Nepalese team of S. Bajracharya and Abhishek Bastola.

The Ratiwatana twins, Sanchai and Sonchat, who had missed a bunch of matchpoints in the title fight against Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi in the 2006 Asian Games in Doha, have been seeded second.

All the Indian players will be in action in singles and doubles on Monday.
