INDIAN TENNIS CONTINGENT AT SOUTH ASIAN GAMES 2019
The Indian men’s and women’s tennis teams have been seeded No.1 and given a bye in the seven-nation South Asian Games being staged in Kathmandu, Nepal.
Pakistan is the second seed in both the men’s and women’s events. India has a bye in the first round in both events.
The Indian women will play the winner of the match between Nepal and Maldives in the semifinals. Pakistan will play the winner of Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, after a bye.
The Indian men will play the winner of the match between Bangladesh and Nepal in the semifinals. Pakistan plays Sri Lanka in the quarterfinals, and Bhutan will be against Maldives in another first round.
Former national champion Ashutosh Singh is the coach cum captain for both the Indian men’s and women’s teams.
As expected, Pakistan does have Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi and Aqeel Khan who had refused to play the Davis Cup tie against India in Nur Sultan, Kazakhstan, in protest against ITF’s decision to shift the tie out of Islamabad, Pakistan.
