Indian boys finish third in Asian under-14 Team Cup
Indian boys beat Sri Lanka 2-0 to finish third in the Asian Junior Team Cup under-14 tennis tournament played in Doha, Qatar.
The boys, Agriya Yadav, Manas Dhamne, Rushil Khosla and Arunava Majumder had lost the semifinals 1-2 to the eventual champion Hong Kong. Rushil and Arunava had lost the decisive doubles after winning the first set in that semifinal.
India had topped the group featuring Sri Lanka, Nepal and Qatar-B, in the league phase.
Asian Games gold medallist and former world No.3 doubles star, Rohan Bopanna met the juniors in Doha, prior to the Qatar Open in which he will be partnering Wesley Koolhof, and told them not to be disappointed with the result, and work hard to win bigger events.
The results:
Third place: India bt Sri Lanka 2-0 (Rushil Khosla bt Zaidh Zihar 6-1, 6-4; Manas Dhamne bt Hasal Sennath Ahangama 7-5, 6-2).
Semifinals: Hong Kong bt India 2-1 ( Kwok Shun Dasson Chan bt Agriya Yadav 6-4, 6-1; Curtis Hong Tseng Tan lost to Manas Dhamne 6-2, 4-6, 3-6; Max Shun Wang Kwok & Kwon Shun Dasson Chan bt Rushil Khosla & Arunava Majumder 2-6, 6-3, 6-3).
