Divesh gahlot fights past Sammr raina in national tennis
Top seed Divesh Gahlot had to fight it out 7-5, 7-5 against Sammr Raina in the first round of under-16 boys event in the Fenesta National sub-junior tennis championship at the DLTA Complex here on Monday.
Aman Dahiya, Naresh Badgujar and Kanishk Pal sailed into the second round in a draw of 64. The rest of the matches were under lights on a long day of relentless action.
In the girls under-16 section, Ishika Chakma of Assam battled past Lagan Bidhan of Haryana 6-3, 1-6, 7-6(6) to set up a second round against top seed Bhakti Parwani.
Poorvi Bhat overcame a slow start to beat Saniya Masand 2-6, 6-1, 6-0.
Yana Dhamija beat Naisha Srivstav 6-4, 6-3 to set up a clash against fourth seed Sunskrithi Damera.
Sanvi Ahluwalia overcame Rachita Talwar 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 to meet sixth seed Renee Singh.
In the under-14 boys event, fifth seed Ayushmaan Arjeria beat Agriya Yadav 6-3, 7-6(2). The other seven seeds, Udit Gogoi, Aman Dahiya, Chirag Duhan, Aayush Bhat, Jainish Patel, Deep Munim and Ajay Singh broke little sweat in securing their second round entry.
Krishang Raghuvanshi beat Joshua Eapen 6-3, 6-7(3), 6-2 while Karthik Kavin turned it around 3-6, 6-2, 6-0 against Ayaan Arora.
In the under-14 girls event, in which the seeded players had a bye in the first round, Tanushri Pandey beat Aarni Reddy 1-6, 7-5, 6-3 to set up a meeting against second seed Renee Singh.
Mahi Tyagi beat qualifier Urvashi Singh 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, while Chahana Bidhbhatti beat Rachita Talwar 2-6, 6-2, 7-5.
