Dev Javia knocks out Divesh Gehlot in Khelo India Youth Games

Dev Javia knocked out second seed Divesh Gehlot in the men’s under-17 pre-quarterfinals of tennis in the Khelo India Youth Games at the Balewadi Sports Complex on Monday.

Top seed Sushant Dabas had a walkover, and will play Krishan Hooda in the quarterfinals. Ajay Malik and Krish Patel were the other prominent players in the quarterfinals.
In the under-21 event, Ishaque Eqbal had a bye and will play Dhruv Sunish in the quarterfinals.

Paramveer Singh Bajwa set up a quarterfinal against Abhinav Sanjeev Shanmugam.

Other professionals in the circuit like, Manish Sureshkumar and Nitin Kumar Sinha also made the quarterfinals, albeit in contrasting style.

Manish cruised for the loss of one game, while Nitin Kumar Sinha needed three sets to tame Atharva Sharma. Nitin will next challenge second seed Faisal Qamar.

In the women’s under-21 event, the top two seeds Mahak Jain and Humera Shaik had bye. Mahak will face Vaidehi Chaudhari in the quarterfinals. Zeel Desai and Kaavya Balasubramanian progressed smoothly into the second round.

In the under-17 section, Vanshika Choudhari battled to beat fourth seed Sanya Singh 6-2, 4-6, 7-6(3).

Priyanshi Bhandari had an equally absorbing match against Paavni Pathak and prevailed 2-6, 7-6(5), 6-3.

Prerna Vichare and Sanjana Sirimalla were the others to make the quarterfinals.

The organisers had to redo the draw on Monday morning, owing to a technical problem, as the players from the same State had not been distributed into different quarters.
