Bopanna-Shapovalov pair ousted from US Open, Indian challenge ends
The Indian challenge came to an end at the US Open with the quarter-finals loss of Rohan Bopanna and his Canadian partner Denis Shapovalov in the men’s doubles event in New York.
Bopanna and Shapovalov were handed a tough 5-7, 5-7 loss by the Dutch Jean-Julien Rojer and Romanian Horea Tecau in the last eight match which lasted one hour 26 minutes.
The Indo-Canadian pair got broken once in each set and could not convert the only break chance that came their way in the second set.
For the 37th ranked doubles specialist from India, it was Bopanna’s best performance at a Grand Slam since he made the last eight stage at both the French Open and the US Open in 2018.
Other Indians in this year’s edition of the US Open, Divij Sharan and Sumit Nagal, were already out of the tournament following their defeats in their respective events.
