Bopanna in quarterfinals, Divij loses second round in Paris

Rohan Bopanna in partnership with Denis Shapovalov of Canada sailed into the quarterfinals with a fluent 6-1, 6-3 victory over Maximo Gonzalez of Argentina and Austin Krajicek of the US in the €5,791,280 ATP-1000 tennis tournament in Paris on Thursday.

Bopanna and partner will play Karen Khachanov and Andrey Rublev of Russia in the quarterfinals.

Divij Sharan, who got in as alternate with Artem Sitak of New Zaland was beaten 6-2, 6-3 by Jeremy Chardy and Fabrice Martin of France.

The second round entry was worth 90 ATP points and €18,730.

Meanwhile, Vishnu Vardhan in partnership with Toshihide Matsui of Japan made the doubles semifinals, following a second walkover in the $135,400 Challenger tennis tournament in Shenzhen, China.

While it was the left wrist injury of Malek Jaziri of Tunisia that fetched a walkover for the Indo-Japanese pair in the
pre-quarterfinals, it was the right elbow injury of Sadio Doumbia that resulted in a walkover for Vishnu and Matsui.

In the semifinals, Vishnu and partner will play Mikhail Elgin and Ramkumar Ramanathan who put out the third seeds, Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan and Adil Shamasdin 6-4, 7-6(3).

In the $60,000 ITF women’s event in Liuzhou, China, Ankita Raina made the doubles semifinals with Rosalie van der Hoek of the Netherlands.
