Ankita Raina bows out from Shenzhen

Ankita Raina failed to capitalise on a fine start and was beaten 3-6, 6-1, 6-0 by Fang Ying Xun of China in the first round of the $100,000 ITF women’s tennis tournament in Shenzhen, China, on Wednesday.

In the doubles pre-quarterfinals, Ankita in partnership Bibiane Schoofs of the Netherlands was beaten in straight sets by Nao Hibino and Makoto Ninomiya of Japan.

Int he Challenger in Kobe, Japan, Ramkumar Ramanathan, seeded fourth with Purav Raja, made the doubles quarterfinals, as the Ratiwatana twins from Thailand, Sanchai and Sonchat, retired when the Indian team led 4-2 in the first set.
