Message to Players
We trust that all of you are safe and in good health, and we pray for the same in these difficult times of on-going global pandemic – COVID-19.
Through this message, we would like to keep you informed about the All India Tennis Association’s (AITA) plan to resume Tennis related activities in India.
The AITA, based on the assumption that the complete National Lockdown would be lifted by July 2020 and that travel restrictions would be eased somewhat, had planned to conduct a Return to Tennis Camp at Delhi in July 2020.
As communicated earlier, this camp is aimed at improving overall training and preparedness and shall have the objective of helping the selected players to be sharp, fit and match ready, as and when they are able to participate in the future tournaments.
Recently, Hon. Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs, Shri Kiren Rijiju, had interacted with the AITA and had some encouraging words along with a promise of Govt. support to get sports back on rails, at the earliest possible. But, due to the continuing seriousness of COVID-19 cases in India, the above Camps have been kept in abeyance.
In the current situation, it does not look like that the aforesaid camp will happen until the end of August 2020.
However, the broad plan of AITA shall remain the same. The Return to Tennis Camp is likely to be organized in early September 2020, provided there are suitable conditions to hold it in Delhi.
This is to be followed by competitive tournaments in AITA Circuit and ITF Tournaments in India.
In the meantime, we would also like to take a moment to appreciate your contributions in following the guidelines directed by the Govt of India. We urge you to continue doing the same and help the authorities to stop the spread and also be compassionate and helpful to those in need, in these testing times.
Thanking you and praying once again for your safety.
